Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?
  • Register to begin your do-it-yourself fundraiser. You will receive your own personal page and tools to help you maximize your success.
What steps should I take to maximize donations?
  • Go first: Make a donation to your page. Others are more inclined to give when they see that you are dedicated to the cause.
  • Get personal: Add a photo and share your story on why you are raising funds for our organization. By telling your story, your friends and family will feel more connected to the cause.
  • Send emails: Use the tools to send emails to your network of contacts, telling them why you are raising funds for our organization and make the ask for donations.
  • Get social: Did you know that fundraisers raise 40 percent more by using social media? Let all of your friends and followers know that you are raising money, and share why the cause is important to you.
  • Follow up: Did you know that it takes on average three asks to result in one gift? Once you have received a donation, don’t forget to thank your donor.
How do I spread the word about my fundraiser?
  • There are tools within the participant center that will assist you in emailing your contacts to announce your event and ask for donations.
  • Consider sending a “Save the Date” for physical events.
  • Use your social media networks to drive people to your fundraising page. Create an event on Facebook and invite all of your friends and Tweet about your campaign.
How do I send in the money collected at my event?
  • Within 30 days of the completion of the event funds raised for Gillette should be sent to:
    Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare
    Attn: Third Party Fundraisers
    200 University Ave. E., Internal: 010605
    Saint Paul, MN 55101
Are donations tax-deductible?
  • Any contribution to the charity qualifies as a deduction under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. Payments made to the third-party fundraiser to cover expenses are not tax-deductible. Difficulty could arise when an independent, outside organization wishes to raise money for our organization. If the payments are made to this independent organization, and it is not a qualified organization, the payments will not be deductible for income tax purposes. If the payments are made to our organization, then they qualify – to the extent by law.
Do you impose any guidelines for the fundraiser?
  • Fundraisers which benefit Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare must reflect positively on its mission. Gillette reserves the right to decline, cancel, or disassociate with any fundraising that is not in line with our mission.
  • Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare assumes no legal or financial liability associated with third-party events. Event organizers are responsible for obtaining all permits, licenses and insurance certificates. Please note: raffles, drawings, and other games of chance are governed by a variety of state and federal laws. If your event includes one of these activities, you must acquire the proper permit/license from the state.
  • Gillette is able to promote third-party fundraising events, when appropriate, through internal channels. Specific event promotion will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Gillette logo is a registered trademark and cannot be reproduced without written permission from Gillette. Please contact us for permission. Gillette requires the opportunity to review promotional materials (flyers, posters, webpages, etc.) before distribution.
  • Your organization cannot state or imply that it is an agent, subsidiary or partner, nor that it holds any other business relationship with Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.
  • Publicity for your event may not imply that the event is sponsored or co-sponsored by Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare or that we are involved as anything but the beneficiary. For example, you may not call an event “The Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare Walk-a-thon.” Rather your event should be promoted as “The Walk-a-thon to benefit Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare”.
  • Gillette Children Specialty Healthcare’s sales tax-exemption cannot be extended to any other organization, event or fundraising effort.
  • Funds raised will be unrestricted unless otherwise specified on a third-party events application.
  • You may not set up a temporary bank account in Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare’s name.
