What is Walk & Roll?
Walk & Roll is an annual celebration of the Gillette Children's community and an important fundraising event.
Walk & Roll provides opportunities to participate both in-person and from your own neighborhood. Twin Cities (Minnesota) residents will gather at Viking Lakes in Eagan to walk and roll around multiple route and distance options. Gillette patient families and friends residing outside the Twin Cities may participate from wherever they call home.
-
Why is there no registration fee?
Because Walk & Roll is an important fundraising event for Gillette, we've decided to forego a registration fee and instead focus on donations that support Gillette's patient and family services.
What does that mean for you? You're a walker or a roller and a Gillette ambassador. Reach out to your networks via social media, email, snail mail or phone, share why Gillette is important to you, and ask for donations. It's easier than you might think. Something that helps build momentum is to be your own first donor. Take whatever you would have spent on registering for this event and donate that amount toward your fundraising goal. When people see you're "in it", they'll want to join you.
Setting up a fundraising page is easy, there's no minimum amount to raise, and we'll help you with tips and resources along the way.
-
Is there a fundraising minimum for participating?
No! We do encourage all participants to be an active fundraiser though by making or receiving a donation of any amount. Those that do qualify for this year’s event t-shirt for free!
-
What does the money raised help support?
As a nonprofit hospital, donor support is an essential part of Gillette's mission to ensure every patient who enters our door has access to the same high level of expert care, regardless of their ability to pay. With your help, Gillette is opening minds to new possibilities for every child in our care through pioneering treatment—some of which is unreimbursed by insurance, but critical to the physical, emotional, psychological and social well-being of our patients and families.
Additionally, your gifts will also fuel cutting-edge research that leads to ground-breaking treatment options—not only for kids treated at Gillette, but for children with rare and complex conditions around the world.
-
Do I need to be on a team in order to participate?
Nope! While many of our participants do participate on a team made up of co-workers, neighbors, family members or friends, you do not need to be on a team nor create one to join us! Simply register as an individual.
-
What if I don’t live in the Twin Cities/Minnesota but still want to support Gillette through this event?
We're excited to pull the Gillette community together at Viking Lakes in Eagan, MN, for this year's Walk & Roll. Those who can't get to Eagan may participate virtually—individually or as part of a team—from wherever they call home! Simply choose the Walk Anywhere option when registering.
-
Are donations to the event tax-deductible?
Yes, donations to the 2022 Walk & Roll event are tax-deductible. Receipts will be mailed/emailed to donors throughout the event. Cash donors will receive a receipt if a “Walk & Roll Cash Donation Slip” (found under "Event Resources") is included with it.
-
What if I receive donations via cash or check?
Check and cash donations are welcome, although we prefer checks. If you receive cash donations, go to the resources tab to download the cash donation slip. For all cash and check donations please contact JoLanne Hanson at events@gillettechildrens.com to make arrangements for donation pick-up and to ensure the donation is added to your fundraising total. Thank you!
-
How do I receive this year’s event shirt?
Secure your limited-edition Gillette Children's Walk & Roll t-shirt by registering and bringing in at least one donation by noon on September 16, 2022! Participants are welcome to register and fundraise after that date, but we cannot guarantee t-shirt availability or sizing.
By making a donation to your own walk page, or receiving a donation of any amount from a friend, family member, neighbor or colleague, you qualify to receive this year’s shirt. You’ll be able to pick up your shirt at Viking Lakes if you're walking in person. If you registered to Walk Anywhere, we will mail the shirt to the address in your event registration after the event.

What is activity tracking and how do I participate?
Activity tracking is a fun way to engage with this year's event, however you choose to move! Together we're hoping to complete 30,000 minutes of activity. Whether you bike, dance, run, walk, roll, or any other form of moving, track your minutes and be sure to enter them under your profile.
